WHEELS RUMBLE AGAIN THROUGH WILLIAMSTOWN
Late Summer weather greeted cyclists who again chose Williamstown for a National cycling event - this time the paracyclists vying for spots to represent Australia in the coming Rio Olympic Games.
Like the cyclists who fought out the 2016 Santos Tour Down Under (see our stories below), the paracyclists took on the Williamstown circuit including the testing gradients of the hilly ‘Whispering Wall’ trial, as their families and Williamstown locals waited at the finish line to greet them with loud congratulations.

After the event, competitors, their families and Williamstown supporters gathered for the all-important Medal presentations in the Williamstown Institute - and an Aussie ‘sausage sizzle’ - to ensure all the guests from around Australia shared the best of Barossa Valley hospitality in its south-eastern gateway, Williamstown.
Check our video above right for a summary of the day (best viewed at its current size) - then click here for our ‘rogues gallery’ of para-cyclist medal winners....heroes all - and all now honorary members of the Williamstown community!

THE SOUTHERN BAROSSA TURNS ON A STUNNER DOWN UNDER!
South Australia’s ‘Southern Stunner Down Under’ event rocked the Southern Barossa over the beginning of the third week of January as the world’s best professional cyclists hummed through Australia’s premiere wine and food region, our famous Barossa Valley.

Caleb Ewan from Orica GreenEdge took line honours, but equal winners were the towns of Williamstown and Lyndoch as the two hosted thousands of people keen to get a glimpse of an event rated up there with professional cycling circuits around the world.

We recorded the fun and the action as the Barossa’s Tour Down Under 2016 sprang to life under stifling weather conditions.
Check out our video on the TDU above (duration 3mins 30 secs approx) - and if you haven’t already, check out the Santos Women’s Tour in our separate story below.

THE TOUR DOWN UNDER SIZZLES IN THE BAROSSA HEAT
The early stages of this year's Tour Down Under concentrates on the Southern Barossa where Adelaide’s outer suburbia gives way to Australia’s premier wine and food region.

On Monday January 18 under temperatures rising to almost 40 degrees celsius, Lyndoch’s main street gave way to pedal power as for the first time the Santos Women’s Tour melted the pavement over a hundred kilometre circuit which took in Cockatoo Valley, then onto Williamstown before completing the circuit again in Lyndoch -- not once but 4 times.

This great event attracted locals and a very many people from outside the region - including international guests, who packed the roads in the principal towns to see the peleton pass by.
